Frozen Blue Hawaiian
A turquoise, lagoon-colored frozen Blue Hawaiian made with light rum, curaçao, pineapple juice and coconut.
- 5 min prep
- 2 drinks
- Hurricane glass
Imagine a piña colada that dove into a lagoon. The Blue Hawaiian combines the creaminess of coconut with the citrus of blue curaçao, and the color alone gets people talking.
It's slightly lighter than a colada because some of the cream of coconut is replaced with pineapple juice.
Frozen Blue Hawaiian
Ingredients (2 drinks)
- 3 oz light rum
- 1½ oz blue curaçao
- 4 oz pineapple juice
- 1½ oz cream of coconut
- ½ oz fresh lime juice
- 3 cups ice cubes
Instructions
- Measure the rum, blue curaçao, pineapple juice, cream of coconut and lime juice into the blender.
- Add the ice.
- Blend on high for about 40 seconds until smooth.
- Pour into hurricane glasses and garnish with pineapple and a cherry.
Garnish: Pineapple wedge, cherry and an umbrella
Glass: Hurricane glass
Tips for the best texture
- The yellow pineapple juice shifts the blue toward turquoise; more curaçao gives deeper blue.
- Coconut rum can replace half the light rum.
Try a twist
Use blue curaçao syrup and skip the rum for a bright blue mocktail.
Blender, frozen drink maker or slush machine?
These amounts are written for a standard countertop blender. In an ice-shaving frozen drink maker, put the ice in the hopper and the liquids and any fruit in the jar, then run a full cycle. In a home slush machine, which freezes the drink itself, leave out the ice, replace it with about 1 cup of cold water or juice, and pour the mixed liquid into the bowl.
