Frozen Moscow Mule
A spicy-cool frozen Moscow mule with vodka, lime and ginger, finished with a splash of ginger beer.
- 5 min prep
- 2 drinks
- Copper mug
The Moscow mule is all about ginger, and in a frozen drink you need a little extra to keep that spicy bite from getting lost in the ice. We use ginger syrup in the blender and ginger beer on top.
Serve it in copper mugs if you have them; they keep the slush cold and look the part.
Frozen Moscow Mule
Ingredients (2 drinks)
- 4 oz vodka
- 2 oz fresh lime juice
- 1½ oz ginger syrup (or 1 tsp grated fresh ginger + 1 oz simple syrup)
- 3 cups ice cubes
- 3 oz ginger beer, to top
Instructions
- Blend the vodka, lime juice and ginger syrup with the ice until smooth, about 30 seconds.
- Spoon into copper mugs or rocks glasses.
- Top each with 1½ oz ginger beer and stir gently once.
- Garnish with lime and mint.
Garnish: Lime wheel and mint sprig
Glass: Copper mug
Tips for the best texture
- Don't blend the ginger beer; carbonation foams and overflows.
- Fresh ginger gives the most kick; strain it out if you don't like the fibers.
Try a twist
Use bourbon for a Kentucky mule or tequila for a Mexican mule.
Blender, frozen drink maker or slush machine?
These amounts are written for a standard countertop blender. In an ice-shaving frozen drink maker, put the ice in the hopper and the liquids and any fruit in the jar, then run a full cycle. In a home slush machine, which freezes the drink itself, leave out the ice, replace it with about 1 cup of cold water or juice, and pour the mixed liquid into the bowl.
