Classic Frozen Lime Daiquiri
The original frozen daiquiri: white rum, fresh lime and sugar blended with ice. Crisp, tart and three ingredients.
- 5 min prep
- 2 drinks
- Coupe or small tumbler
Long before the strawberry version became famous, the daiquiri was simply rum, lime and sugar — and frozen, it's one of the most refreshing drinks there is. With so few ingredients, quality matters: use a clean white rum and limes you squeeze yourself.
This version is a touch tarter than a bar daiquiri. Cold mutes sweetness, so taste after blending and add syrup if you like it softer.
Classic Frozen Lime Daiquiri
Ingredients (2 drinks)
- 4 oz white rum
- 2 oz fresh lime juice
- 1½ oz simple syrup
- 3 cups ice cubes
Instructions
- Pour the rum, lime juice and simple syrup into the blender.
- Add the ice.
- Pulse to break up the ice, then blend on high for 30 seconds.
- Pour into chilled coupes or small tumblers and garnish with a thin lime wheel.
Garnish: Lime wheel
Glass: Coupe or small tumbler
Tips for the best texture
- A pinch of salt makes the lime taste brighter.
- Demerara syrup instead of plain simple syrup gives a deeper, caramel note.
Try a twist
Make a frozen Hemingway-style daiquiri: replace half the lime with grapefruit juice and add ½ oz maraschino liqueur.
Blender, frozen drink maker or slush machine?
These amounts are written for a standard countertop blender. In an ice-shaving frozen drink maker, put the ice in the hopper and the liquids and any fruit in the jar, then run a full cycle. In a home slush machine, which freezes the drink itself, leave out the ice, replace it with about 1 cup of cold water or juice, and pour the mixed liquid into the bowl.
